ART-2220 Photography Survey
This course introduces the multi-faceted medium of photography. Historical and contemporary uses of the medium are explored both intellectually and conversationally.

Pinhole Photography

Students build their own pinhole camera from coffee cans, tea tins, foamcore, etc. They make images on traditional black and white photo paper that they process in the darkroom before scanning the results and making digital positives.

Toy Cameras
Students use cheaply made plastic film cameras known for their imperfections to create images on medium format film. They process their film in the darkroom before scanning the negatives and creating digital positives.

Digital Photography; Now and Then
Students search University, State, and Local archives for images of spaces that still exist today. Students make new images of the spaces before inserting the archive image into them.
